Válek, Miroslav: Ohýbači železa

Portre of Válek, Miroslav

Ohýbači železa (Slovak)

Na ulici Vuka Karadžiča
na rohu
dvaja muži ohýbajú oceľové prúty.
Je to práca tak trocha básnická.
Železo jak verš sa vzpiera vôli človeka.
Ale verš za veršom,
verš za veršom,
a je z toho jedinečná báseň.
Nad všetky tie verše,
na tretie poschodie
sa nasťahuje modrooká pointa.
Bude hladkať svoje štyri steny:
Ako je to pevne postavené
a koľko len sily potrebuje taký múr.

Mať väčšie svaly, stal by som sa ohýbačom železa.

Rod Benders (English)

In Vuk Karagitch Street
on the corner
two men are bending steel rods.
That work is somehow poetic a little.
The metal like verse jibs at man’s will.
Though a verse by verse,
a verse by verse,
and a unique poem comes up.
Above all those verses,
on the third floor
a blue eyed idea will move.
She will stroke her four walls:
How firmly it is built
and how much strength such a wall needs.

Had I had bigger muscles I’d have become a rod bender.
