Kareva, Doris: [As a child I wondered] ([Lapsena mõtlesin] in English)

Portre of Kareva, Doris

tulgu veeuputus.

Enne mind,
mitte minu pärast.

[As a child I wondered] (English)

As a child I wondered: what is the end of the world?
It is when your parents divorce.

If water carries everything, and fire consumes everything,
if a nuclear bomb turns everything to ash -
then that's all.

Then time has assumed a shape.

But if under your feet the ground breaks away,
opens an abyss where you fall,
endlessly fall,
yet you survive — why?

I put my hands together in prayer: better
a flood should come.

Before me,
not because of me.
