Yeats, William Butler: When You are Old

Portre of Yeats, William Butler

When You are Old (English)

When you are old and gray and full of sleep
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true;
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face.

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead,
And hid his face amid a crown of stars.

Keď príde vek (Slovak)

Keď zostarneš máš šediny, spánok plný
a driemeš pri ohni, zlož tú knihu,
spomeň si na tú hlbočižnú, šedú nádheru,
hebkým leskom očí snívaj, čítaj pomaly.

Koľkí milovali tvoje okamihy veselých milostí,
a láskou milovali tvoju krásu falošnú či pravú;
ale jeden človek miloval v tebe dušu pútnickú,
a miloval smútky tvojich striedavých tvárí.

A zohni sa vedľa ohnivých krížov,
trudne reptaj: kto utiekol láskou,
a kráčal po horách nad hlavou,
a tvár si zakryl hviezdnou tiarou.[1]

[1] Tiara = slávnostná pokrývka hlavy v podobe trojitej koruny
