Pound, Ezra: Pan Is Dead

Portre of Pound, Ezra

Pan Is Dead (English)

‘Pan is dead. Great Pan is dead.
Ah! bow your heads, ye maidens all,
And weave ye him his coronal.’

'There is no summer in the leaves,
And withered are the sedges;
How shall we weave a coronal,
Or gather floral pledges?'

'That I may not say, Ladies.
Death was ever a churl.
That I may not say, Ladies.
How should he show a reason,
That he has taken our Lord away
Upon such hollow season?'

Pán meghalt (Hungarian)

 „Pán meghalt. A nagy Pán halott!
Ó lányok hajtsatok fejet,
és gyászkoszorút fűzzetek.”

„Már nincsen nyár a lomb között,
a sás is egyre fonnyad;
ha nem lel virág-zálogot,
gyászkoszorút ki fonhat?”

„Ezt nem tudom, ó, hölgyek,
a halál mindig durva fickó;
ezt nem tudom, ó, hölgyek.
Hogy mondaná meg leplezetlen,
Urunkat mért ragadta el
e puszta évnegyedben?”
