Plath, Sylvia: Zúzódás (Contusion in Hungarian)

Portre of Plath, Sylvia
Portre of Tandori Dezső

Back to the translator

Contusion (English)

Color floods to the spot, dull purple.

The rest of the body is all washed out,

The color of pearl.

In a pit of rock

The sea sucks obsessively,

One hollow the whole sea's pivot.

The size of a fly,

The doom mark

Crawls down the wall.

The heart shuts,

The sea slides back,

The mirrors are sheeted.

Zúzódás (Hungarian)

Szín fut a tetthelyre, bíborsötét.

A test többi része elmosódik,

Szív megszállottan a tenger,

Egy üreg az egész tenger tengelye.

Akkora, mint egy légy:

A végzet jele

Lekúszik a falon.

Zárul a szív,

Hátracsusszan a tenger,

Letakarva a tükrök.
