Joyce, James: Kamarazene II (Chamber Music II in Hungarian)

Portre of Joyce, James
Portre of Gergely Ágnes

Back to the translator

Chamber Music II (English)

      The twilight turns from amethyst

          To deep and deeper blue,

The lamp fills with a pale green glow

          The trees of the avenue.

The old piano plays an air,

          Sedate and slow and gay;

She bends upon the yellow keys,

          Her head inclines this way.

Shy thought and grave wide eyes and hands

That wander as they list -- -

The twilight turns to darker blue

          With lights of amethyst.

Kamarazene II (Hungarian)

Az alkonyégi ametiszt

Mind mélyebb kékbe hull,

Az utca fáin át fakó

Zöld lámpák lángja gyúl.

Dal szól a régi zongorán,

Derűs, nyugodt, meleg,

A sárga billentyűk fölött

A kis fej megremeg.

Sóvár, ijedt szem űzi még

Az álmok dallamát –

Az alkony éji kékbe hull

Az ametiszten át.
