Crane, Stephen: A sivatagban (In the desert in Hungarian)

Portre of Crane, Stephen

Back to the translator

In the desert (English)

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter—bitter,” he answered;

“But I like it
“Because it is bitter,
“And because it is my heart.”

A sivatagban (Hungarian)

Egy szörnyű lényt
Láttam a sivatagban meztelen,
Guggolva ült a földön,
Kezében tartotta a szívét,
S abból evett.
"Ízlik, testvér?" kérdeztem én.
"Keserű, keserű" felete.

"De szeretem,
Mivel keserű,
Mivel az én szívem.”
