Kányádi Sándor: Drawing Off (Távolodóban in English)

Portre of Kányádi Sándor

Távolodóban (Hungarian)

távolra még ellát a szem
de a közeli apróságok
már a betűk is megkívánnak
félkarnyújtásnyi távolságot
és ködösül a távol is
heggyel az ég egybemosódik
és kezded el-elhagyogatni
fontosnak vélt vinnivalóid
süllyedőben emelkedőben
látod a foszló láthatárt is
osztogasd szét amid maradt
ingyen is átvisz ha ki átvisz
s hátra ne nézz kiket szeretsz
a maguk útján nem utánad
mendegélnek akaszd a fára
üresen maradt tarisznyádat

Drawing Off (English)

the eyes can still see pretty far
but the little things ever so close
in fact even the letters need be
held much farther from your nose
and distance gets dimmer too
the hills and the sky get blurred
and now and then you tend to lose
things that so important appeared
at times sinking then arising
you see the tattered skyline too
give away now all you’ve got left
no wealth needed to cross when due
and don’t look back the ones you love
their own way and not yours simply
saunter hang on the branch of a tree
your bag that has remained empty
