Jonson, Ben: Lassan, friss forrás (Echo’s song in Hungarian)

Portre of Jonson, Ben
Portre of Tandori Dezső

Back to the translator

Echo’s song (English)

Slow, slow, fresh fount, keep time with my salt tears ;

    Yet slower, yet ; O faintly gentle springs :

List to the heavy part the music bears,

    Woe weeps out her division, when she sings.

          Droop herbs and flowers ;

          Fall grief in showers ;

          Our beauties are not ours ;

             O, I could still,

Like melting snow upon some craggy hill,

          Drop, drop, drop, drop,

Since nature's pride is, now, a withered daffodil.

Lassan, friss forrás (Hungarian)

Lassan, friss forrás, várd be könnyemet;

ó, gyöngéd kútfők, még lassuljatok;

a súlyos dallamra figyeljetek,

kíséretet hozzá bánat zokog.

Növény, virág, borulj le,

hullj, gyász szapora könnye:

a szépség fáj ma, tűnte.

Még hullanék!

(Ahogy a gleccseren olvad a jég –)

Ó, cseppre cseppre csepp:

holt nárcisz, mi dicső Természet volt elébb.
